President Murmu Calls for Stronger India-Romania Economic Partnership, Highlights Untapped Investment Potential
President Droupadi Murmu highlights the immense potential for India-Romania economic cooperation, calling for stronger trade, investment and business partnerships. She emphasizes sectors including defence, renewable energy, technology, healthcare and the importance of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
Addressing the India-Romania Business Forum in Bucharest, President Murmu said Romania’s strategic geographical location, skilled workforce and strong integration with the European Union make it an important partner for India and a gateway to the wider European market.
The President said the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement would mark a significant milestone in strengthening economic relations by encouraging trade, investment and resilient supply chains. She emphasized the importance of its early implementation to generate new opportunities for businesses, micro, small and medium enterprises, and start-ups.
President Murmu highlighted that India and Romania can substantially enhance cooperation across several key sectors, including defence manufacturing, renewable energy, green hydrogen, nuclear energy, information technology, digital public infrastructure, cyber security, transportation, logistics, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture and food processing.
She said India’s rapidly expanding economy, investor-friendly reforms and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 provide extensive opportunities for global partnerships and investments.
The President also emphasized the importance of institutional mechanisms, including the Joint Economic Commission, the Joint Working Group on Energy and the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee, in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Expressing confidence in the outcomes of discussions between business leaders, President Murmu said these interactions would help promote new investments, establish stronger partnerships and build lasting business relationships.
The India-Romania Business Forum has emerged as an important platform for advancing economic cooperation between the two countries, with both nations aiming to unlock new avenues of collaboration and take bilateral economic ties to greater heights.
